What's "clean room recovery"?

That's when a hard drive is opened in a dust-free room and physically repaired. We don't offer that but Drivesavers does. We've worked with them for 15 years and our customers enjoy a 10% discount. And we enjoy their gift box of chocolates every Christmas.

How can I prevent data loss?

Buy an external hard drive that's double the capacity of the internal hard drive you want to backup. Then in System Preferences turn on Time Machine. That's the quickest, easiest and most cost-effective way to prevent data loss beforehard. For redundancy, try You hold the encryption key so they cannot access your data.

Should I try data recovery myself?

Yes, if and only if you have 3-5 years of hands on experience. Incorrect/failed recovery attempts will decrease the probability of a second attempt.
